Description
Dreadlocks are a hairstyle made of rope-like strands of hair. They are also known as locs or dreads. Dreadlocks are created by matting hair strands together, usually through twisting or braiding. Other methods include not combing the hair and allowing it to mat naturally, or by interlocking the hair. Some people also use a process called “neglect” to form dreadlocks, where they stop brushing or combing their hair and allow it to knot on its own. Dreadlocks can help protect your hair from environmental stressors. The only way locs styles will ruin hair, is if you don’t dry them properly or retwist them too often. The term “dreadlocks” comes from the dread that slave owners presumably aroused in beholders. In American culture, the term “dread” has been misinterpreted and appropriated as meaning “dreadful”. However, those who wear dreadlocks in other cultures are traditionally seen as warriors.
