Description
Box braids are a protective hairstyle that involves parting hair into square-shaped sections and braiding them from the scalp to the ends. The name comes from the box-like appearance of the individual braids. Box braids have been in existence since 3500 BC and were worn by people of Namibia and the Nile Valley. Box Braids are popular among African people and the African Diaspora. They came into limelight around the early 1990s with Janet Jackson. The tightness of the knot can pull on the hair, causing excessive hair shedding, and traction alopecia. That’s why, at The House Of Braids, our stylists are trained to spare you that discomfort. Box braids are typically medium-sized, about the width of a pencil to that of a marker. They are different from cornrows, which are braided flat against the scalp. Depending on their width, we distinguish Small Box Braids, Medium Box Braids, Large Box Braids and Jumbo Box Braids. Small Box Braids are also called Single Braids
